The BIB is designed to be used in conjunction with a diet long-term supervision and in the context of a behavior modification program to help patients maintain weight loss once the device is removed at 6 months.
The intra-gastric balloon is introduced into the stomach via endoscopy (by mouth), without surgery. Then the balloon is filled with saline using a total volume between 400 to 800 ml, causing a feeling of fullness. This ball is of high quality silicone, durable and ALAC stomach. The procedure usually lasts 20 to 30 minutes and is an outpatient in most cases.
After 6 months, the balloon can be deflated and can be removed endoscopically without difficulty. Consecutive balls can be placed to extend treatment if necessary. |
