          Intra-Gastric Balloon
Pdf  Patient Information

The intra-gastric balloon BioEnterics ® (BIB) is a non-pharmacological and non-surgical alternative for the treatment of obesity.

The BIB System is designed to cause a temporary weight loss in obese patients, to partially fill the stomach and help them feel a sense of satiety and fullness.

The short-term treatment with the BIB is indicated in the following cases:

Balon Intragastrico
Patients 18 and 30 kilos of overweight, obesity, mild to moderate, with significant risks for obesity-related health and have failed to achieve and maintain weight loss by other methods or programs supervised by physicians.
The BIB system is also used for the temporary weight loss in severely obese patients (or super obese with a BMI> 50), helping to reduce the risk of surgery in preparation for more definitive surgery.
Obese patients candidates for surgery, but the highest risk or simply refuse surgery as the only treatment option.
Obese adolescents 13 to 18 years may be offered definitive surgery for their obesity because they do not have the physical or emotional maturity to deal with this type of surgery. In this group, the BIB is an excellent alternative.
The BIB is designed to be used in conjunction with a diet long-term supervision and in the context of a behavior modification program to help patients maintain weight loss once the device is removed at 6 months.

The intra-gastric balloon is introduced into the stomach via endoscopy (by mouth), without surgery. Then the balloon is filled with saline using a total volume between 400 to 800 ml, causing a feeling of fullness. This ball is of high quality silicone, durable and ALAC stomach. The procedure usually lasts 20 to 30 minutes and is an outpatient in most cases.

After 6 months, the balloon can be deflated and can be removed endoscopically without difficulty. Consecutive balls can be placed to extend treatment if necessary.
