The advent of laparoscopic surgery through an incision or SILS, has improved the experience even more minimally invasive. This has reduced the number of incisions in the skin to a single incision and has made this technique has begun to implement procedures such as appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colectomy, nephrectomy, hysterectomy, repair of hiatal hernia, gastric sleeve, banding and gastric bypass.
The VSG seems tailor-made for SILS procedure due to the direct nature of the procedure itself and the ability to operate in one quadrant of the abdomen.
The SILS technique is particularly indicated in women with low BMI (obesity grade 1 or 2) and in young patients. Recovery is quick and will not be scarred for the future because the only scar is hidden in the navel.
