I am type 2 diabetic for 5 years, I have 53 years. For my background hereditary diabetes (3 grandparents, aunts and uncles on both sides, dad type 2 diabetes from 21 years and 15 years of his life-insulin dependent, brother, cousins) always knew I would have this disease, which did not know was that debut so young (48 years) and as high glycemia (465 mg.) and without symptoms especially common.
During these 5 years I was tremendously difficult to control my blood glucose, quickly and required several progressive and high doses of hypoglycemic, so even maintaining blood glucose at higher ranks. The last month before the operation began to inject insulin and still not stabilized my blood glucose levels as expected.
In December 2007, my sister tells me that in a TV show interviewed a physician, Dr. Marcos Berry, Clinica Las Condes who had a great hope for diabetics consisting of a metabolic surgery. On this information I consulted Dr. Berry and my terms, in principle met the conditions to qualify and be part of a project Clinica Las Condes for this surgery.
After many tests and evaluations to qualify and I performed the surgery on March 15, 2008. From then until today, my life has changed 180 degrees, first 2 days I was hospitalized, the optimal post-operative was without any complications, I quickly inserted into labor. To date I have lost 10 pounds, I am not insulin, with a maintenance dose of hypoglycemic, I feel extremely well and most importantly I'm happy.
This surgery is a great alternative, as is unfortunately a very recent treatment, not all diabetics qualify. Hopefully soon, the progress of science allow more diabetics access to a better quality of life.
No finish to thank all the medical equipment and human project the wonderful opportunity they gave me, in such excellent health center, and high quality of care. For me it was a miracle.
